Who We Are

The UNM Hospital Community Engagement (UNMH CE) department contributes to the overall well-being of the communities we serve to achieve positive health impact and outcomes through community engagement. The mission of UNMH CE is to advance UNMH’s commitment to be the leader in patient care, education, and research through community engagement practices. The Community Engagement department is under the Office of Community Engagement and Language Access.

What We Do

Purpose: The You Matter! Youth Summit is event is designed to support middle school students in building confidence, strengthening mental wellness, and learning skills to make safe, positive decisions. Students will participate in workshops, keynote sessions, and small group discussions facilitated by qualified presenters.   

This empowering full-day experience is designed for 6th-grade middle school students and will focus on:  

  • Mental wellness and resilience 
  • Self-worth, identity, and emotional wellness 
  • Peer pressure, healthy decision-making, and conflict resolution 
  • Violence prevention and gun safety (age-appropriate content) 
  • Leadership, empowerment, and positive relationships  

Students will hear from inspiring speakers, participate in breakout workshops, and engage in interactive activities that support confidence, coping skills, and safe choices.
